How Very Punk

I post what I want, when I want. There's no theme to be found here, but there are reoccurring hobbies and interests that appear.

At the bar with friends the other night….

Drunk Girl: Tell me a story!111!!!!! :D
Me: All right… (thinking frantically)
Drunk Girl: Yay!!
Me: Well…
Me: This is a story all about how
Me: My life got flipped, turned upside-down
Me: Now let me take a take a minute, just sit right there
Me: I’ll tell you how I became Prince of a town called Bel-Air.
Narrator: Our hero then proceeded to take the girl home
Narrator: …To her apartment, because he was sober cab, and the girl was someone who had friend-zoned him long ago.
Audience: Awwwwwwwww.
Narrator: But if the chance to tell a drunk girl a story arises again, our hero will surely use this strategy.

And if you look at your reflection, is that all you want to be?

I was listening to With_Teeth, scrolling through the Nine Inch Nails tag, and I read this post in almost perfect unison with Trent Reznor singing that line of the song.

It was an amazing moment of coincidence.

I finally changed my portrait photo

for the first time in almost two years of having this blog.

I was listening to Deja Entendu yesterday (the artwork of which was my portrait photo previously), and I had this really weird feeling. I don’t feel like I’ve outgrown that album from the standpoint of enjoying it artistically, but I do feel like I don’t connect with it on a personal level anymore.

These things happen. We grow up.. former problems become just that: former problems. I related with Brand New’s earlier music a lot during high school because they talked about things I was facing: that ever present feeling of melancholy, girl issues, worrying about the future or losing the feeling of being young.

Someday, some of the music I listen to now will become music I listen to artistically, or for nostalgia. Again, these things happen.

But what this little experience of losing connection has given me is a feeling of accomplishment. I’ve faced down the demons of Deja Entendu in my own life, and have overcome them. It’s a milestone of sorts in my life. It will always have a place in my musical library, and its an important part of my past.

Finally listened to The Fragile all the way through last night

Yes, all one and a half hours plus of it. It was quite the experience.

And then I find out this morning that its Reznor’s birthday today. Pretty cool coincidence. I will celebrate by listening to NIN nonstop today (as if I don’t do that most days lately!).

I have a friend who wants the world to end

because he says its complete evil and beyond saving.

There’s a lot of evil in the world, but I don’t want it to end. For every grand act of evil, there’s quiet acts of good happening all around us that we never see or hear about. This is because truly good people don’t parade their good deeds around. They just do them because someone had to.. and why not them?

On a side note, sometimes I think people who want the world to end are actually projecting. They are discontent with their own lives and think the only way things could get better - using “better” very subjectively here - is if their life came to an end. But because they are either morally opposed to suicide or scared to end their own life, they bemoan about the world as a whole, shaking their fist at societies.

Games I want to like, but I just can’t

Assassin’s Creed: Brotherhood

I bought this game last August. I’ve played it for about a total of ten hours at most. I really loved Assassin’s Creed 1 and 2, but I just could not get into this one. I think I just may be bored of the AC games (never even attempted to play Revelations).

Fallout 3 and New Vegas

My best friend has dropped 200+ hours into these games combined, but I just can’t get into them for the life of me. I bought Fallout 3 last summer as well, and I’ve only played it for about fifteen hours. I bought New Vegas on clearance for $10 a couple months ago. and so far I’ve managed to play it for about three.

Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion

I really enjoy Skyrim, but this is another Bethesda game I just can’t get into. My speculation for why I can’t get into these games is that I’m mostly a casual gamer (I like to play a game for about an hour or two at a time), and these games demand that you take hours upon hours just to get a basic feel for whats going on. They’re immersive, and best played for about four to five hours at a time.

I’m not sure what made Skyrim different, but for some reason it was just more accessible to people like me. Someone who is a long time fan of Bethesda games could probably explain that phenomenon.

Jade Empire

This is one I wanted to play back in the day, but never got around to it. I bought it last year, and got about 3/5’s of the way through the story before my interest finally died. I tried to pick it back up again within the last month or so, but I couldn’t get any further in the game. I didn’t like the characters enough to slog through the combat sections I wasn’t getting any enjoyment out of.

I’m just hanging on to all of these games for the time being, hoping that some day things will click, and I’ll enjoy them.
